Sports, made interesting
By Bettor than Average

Does a sports betting column really belong in a law school newspaper? To quote a great former professor of mine, ‘It Depends.’ Either way sports are always more fun with a personal stake in the action. So let’s get to my picks for the weekend:

College:

Central Michigan @ Eastern Michigan +10-This is a rivalry game and going with the home team getting 10 is not a tough sell. Both teams are fairly evenly matched, despite Central Michigan playing some better talent thus far. Still, Eastern has some revenge on their minds. In turn, they keep it close.

Notre Dame @ Michigan State -3.5-Notre Dame has never traveled well, and last week at home they were in a game with Michigan thanks to a 95 yard Hail Mary. Michigan State will have their home crowd support which they didn’t have last week when they failed to cover against a lackluster Florida Atlantic team.

ECU+20.5 @ Virginia Tech-Virginia Tech, a team that lost to Boise State and James Madison, is favored by close to 3 touchdowns. Stupid, I know. So take advantage and cash in. ECU has a great offense that won’t experience its usual success against the Hokie Defense. Yet they have enough to stay within the given points.

Professional:

Houston @ Washington Under 43.5- Washington has a legitimate top 5 defense and they will get to Matt Schaub. Arian Foster is a legitimate talent as is Andre Johnson, but can they replicate what they did at home last week against Indy? I don’t think so.

New England -3 @ New York Jets- Taking a road favorite in a divisional game is a serious gambling offense. I know. Yet, the Patriots defense showed they can play with a quality offense last week against Cincinatti. Mark Sanchez is nowhere close to being ready for primetime.

NY Giants @ Indianapolis -5.5-The biggest mistake in week 2 of the NFL is overreacting to week 1. Colts have not gone 0-2 under Peyton Manning. The Colts at home are a different team, just ask the Jets.
